“When Roj and I started this project, we wanted a nice dirty,
tech-house vibe. We worked to give it some color, some crunch and a
bit of dirt on the kick and bass. But there’s also a contrast with the
clean acid sound and textures, which bubble up out of the core
elements. It’s pure underground music. A little dirty on the outside,
with some color on the inside: like a radish! When we were done with
the original Roj wanted to take it a little different direction, so he
reworked it in his signature style; Bass-heavy, groovy and slightly
robotic. The result is a lot of fun and I hope folks love it as much

Track one of Phaedrus’ offering for the latest Knightriders release is a masterfully constructed piece of dance floor genius. ‘Smooth Operator’ features well thought out minimal drums, groovy basslines, and a vibe-filled synth stab that echoes away while the low, dark voice assures you that, ‘Everything’s running smoothly’

While maintaining the overall feel, Seattle’s Mathew Anderson heads in a slightly new direction with his interpretation of Phaedrus’, ‘Smooth Operator’. While the dark, minimal goodness remains, Anderson instead keeps things subtle and sexy with a deeper breakdown, effected vocals, and an undeniable groove that will work it’s way into your body, mind and soul.

‘Hostility’, the third track featured on Knightriders Recordings’ sixth digital release, takes on a medieval-electro-industrial sound while maintaining the deep and emotional MO of this powerful EP. With divinely distorted drums, sweeping synths talking back and forth, and a sound that can only be described as a tiny mechanical hamster playing Zelda while running on his futuristic hover wheel, Phaedrus has himself a real big track!

The fourth and final track, ‘Omnipresent’, is a straightforward tech house work of art! Up beat and relentless, Phaedrus’ conclusion features closely passing spaceships, alien stabs, and chords playfully battling the filtered, almost acidic bassline. It’s difficult to describe the great energy this track brings – so take a listen for yourself!

This DJ mix a is a representation of Phaerdus’ style and it may just give the listener an idea of what this Dutchman has in store for Knightriders in 2013. His new EP “Anno Patris” is due out January 12th and marks Phaedrus’ first release on KRecordings which includes a remix by KR’s own Mathew Anderson. Available Exclusively on Beatport

Phaedrus is the moniker of Dutch DJ and producer Joris Kamma. His love for electronic music developed in the early nineties, with the rise of house and techno. In particular its raw energy and unorthodox character inspired him to pick up DJ-ing and producing.  In the Netherlands, Kamma was a regular guest at underground radio station Tonka and played a wide variety of DJ live sets at various events, performing with the likes of David Tarrida, Zero One and Pounding Grooves to name but a few.
In 2010 Joris relocated to Seattle, joining the ranks of Cascadian techno. He is currently involved with local record label Peloton Musique, which releases a wide range of fresh and exciting electronica.

His live sets typically consist of techno with added flavors techhouse, electro and 2-step. As a DJ, he enjoys to dig in deep & quirky territories, a major influence being “Brighton techno ,” a term coined from Cristian Vogel’s Brighton-based record label Mosquito. “I’m always looking for that special track that doesn’t sound like anything else”

214 aka J. Alvarez’ s “Tulum” is remixed by long time NYC producer Elliot Taub aka Ulysses and 1/2 of the Neurotic Drum Band with John Selway. Ulysses takes the Jamaican dub influence to Italy for some Italio-disco lessons.

Side B: opens with Seattle’s own RyanMath remixing Naturebot’s “Baby, I’m taking you back” which reels back a bit with 4 to the floor sensibility.
Last, but never least, Gunnar Lockwood’s “Abrader” remixed by
Bangkok’s own Mix Architekt adds a woozy groove and sonic atmospherics.
